What is “Debris Flow”? How Do You Prepare? 11-12-20 15:00 DC

Beyond the initial damage to structures and property, the destruction of trees, shrubs, and grass can lead to long-term issues for residents. Areas downhill and downstream from burned areas are at risk of debris flows and flash flooding.

In 2018, following the Thomas Fire in Santa Barbara County, flooding and debris flow caused by rain caused $177 million in damages and killed 23 people. In many natural disasters, debris flows can cause more fatalities and injuries than wildfires.
