Updated: Watsonville Childcare Rally 10-05-18 05:53 DC

An estimated 200 people attended a rally last night in Watsonville protesting the lack of affordable childcare in Santa Cruz County. One of the protesters, Anna Rodriguez of Watsonville, said many children who would qualify for subsidized child care don’t receive it for lack of funding. It’s estimated that licensed child care for an infant or toddler in Santa Cruz County costs about $15-thousand-dollars a year.

Rodriguez said some childcare workers only earn $3-to-$6-dollars-per-hour. They are seeking better pay and benefits.
