Storm Abating Road Closures- 12/11/14 19:15 P.M.D.

The storm is abating and the incidence of downed trees and power lines is anticipated to diminish.  The National Weather Service forecast is for continued moderate rain overnight; a Flash Flood Watch is currently in effect until 4:00 a.m. Friday.  Rain is anticipated to be diminishing after midnight, with overnight totals between 1 and 2 inches possible.  The County’s Emergency Operations Center is anticipated to close tonight after the most severe weather has passed.

Current road closures include:

  • Empire Grade near 7960 (tree on wires)
  • Ice Cream Grade South of Martin Road (tree on wires)
  • Nina Drive at 980 (tree on wires)
  • Redwood Lodge Road at 16217 (tree on phone wires)
  • Smith Grade at Warren (tree on phone wires and small slide)
  • Valley Drive at Plateau Drive (flooding)
  • Old San Jose Road (onelane closed between mile marker 6.0 and 6.5 due to a mud slide)

The public is encouraged to continue to avoid any unnecessary driving during the storm.  If driving cannot be avoided, use extra caution, allow extra time, and watch for debris, downed trees, or downed power lines that may be obstructing the roadway, as well as standing water or flooding of roadways.  If water covers the roadway do not cross it.  Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear and the water may be too deep to allow your vehicle to cross safely.
