Salinas police say a man who had been released from jail only minutes before then stole a vehicle and choked a child before being arrested again by the California Highway Patrol and Gonzales police.

28-year-old Daniel Orozco was released from jail Wednesday after he was arrested on Tuesday for DUI and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Within 10 minutes of his release, Orozco allegedly forced a woman out of her car in the Natvidad Medical Center parking lot. When she refused to hand over keys to the car, Orozco reportedly strangled the woman’s 11-year-old child.

The mother gave up her keys, grabbing her child before Orozco drove away. He was arrested by the CHP and the Gonzales Police Department along Highway 101.

Orozco was booked into Monterey County Jail for carjacking, kidnapping, child endangerment and assault with a deadly weapon.
