A 20-year-old man is recovering from 2 gunshot wounds, after being assaulted in Salinas on Saturday night. The 11 p.m. shooting occurred on Center Street, when the victim was contacted by a 19-year-old, who asked him for a cigarette. A moment later, the victim was shot from behind. He was airlifted to Stanford Medical Center in stable condition. The suspect fled in a light colored, older-model, 2-door Mercedes.
