The opening of a new Salinas high school is expected to be delayed by a year. Rancho San Juan High School had been scheduled to open in August of 2018. The Salinas Union High School District school board was told construction delays will prevent the school from being completed until the following year. Some officials are blaming the delay on the decision to use union labor, while the union says the delays are due to last winter’s record breaking storms.
