Monterey Co Reopening Could Face Hurdle 06-18-20 04:28 DC

Monterey County’s high positive rate for COVID-19 exceeds the threshold of the state’s reopening indicator. Whether that will slow the county’s reopening plans is not yet clear.

According to county health officials, the state threshold requires that no more than 8-percent of the previous week’s COVID tests come back positive. Monterey County’s rate is 8.6 percent over the past seven days.

The county’s 14-day cumulative cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents is also higher than the state’s target. The county indicator is no more than 32 cases but there are 110 cases at present.

Tomorrow (Friday), Monterey County is set to reopen more businesses, including nail salons and tattoo parlors. County officials haven’t said what the effect of the failed indicators – if anything – will be.
