June 7, 2015: Watsonville Shooting: Officer Wounded, Shooter Dead

(09:26) WATSONVILLE– A Watsonville police officer remains hospitalized in stable condition following a Saturday shoot out. Authorities say that around 6:30 p.m. five officers were engaged in a foot pursuit on the Pajaro River levee near San Juan Road and Porter Drive, when the suspect turned and fired wounding a veteran officer in the upper torso. The officers returned fire killing the suspect who reportedly lived nearby. The injured officer was airlifted to a bay area trauma center. At this time it is not known why the suspect was being chased or how many shots were fired. The name of the officer and victim are being withheld, all five officers have been removed from patrol duty while the shooting is investigated.
