A historic sign that used to hang over Highway 1 in Seaside, has been removed. The 120-foot wide sign, which spanned 6 lanes of traffic, notified recruits, soldiers, and visitors alike, that they were entering a 28,000-acre Military installation. On the west-facing side, there were 2 insignias and the words: U.S. ARMY – FORT ORD, HOME OF THE 7TH INFANTRY DIVISION. The insignias were the symbols for the Training and Doctrine Command, and the 7th Infantry.
