Gilroy to forfeit rest of football season 10-02-19 23:55 DC 6

After four varsity football players were cited in connection with the sexual battery of another student, Gilroy High School will now forfeit the rest of this season’s games.

Tom Emery, president of Peninsula Sports, Inc., said that only nine players were left on the team. Beyond the four cited, Emery told reporters that other players have resigned to protest events at the school.

Gilroy police said four members of the varsity football team were issued juvenile citations for sexual battery. Investigators were told members of the team were involved in assaulting a fellow student after school.

Police do not believe the incident was a hate crime. Names of the students will not be released because they are minors.
