CHP Safety Tips for Thanksgiving Travelers- 11/24/14 16:00 P.S.

With Thanksgiving weekend being one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, the California Highway Patrol and the National Traffic Safety Administration are encouraging motorists to be especially careful while traveling this holiday. Travelers should always buckle up, avoid driving distracted, obey the posted speed limit, and never drink and drive. Thanksgiving is a maximum enforcement period for the CHP, with the holiday reporting period beginning on Wednesday, November 26th, at 6 p.m. and lasting through Sunday, November 30th. Over thirty people were killed during motor accidents on Thanksgiving last year. Over 80 percent of those killed were not wearing a seat belt.
