Capitola may be the first city in the county to have all of its police use body cameras. The department is seeking to use a $100,000 state law enforcement grant to outfit its nine patrol vehicles and about 20 officers with cameras. Officials say that the cameras provide many benefits, footage can be used as training aids, for evidence collection, they also provide an impartial record, as well as producing a more compliant nature in individuals that tend to be combative. Capitola currently has no cameras in its patrol vehicles.
