Cannabis Delivery Crackdown Planned in Santa Cruz County 08/28/18 1755 DC

Santa Cruz County is cracking down on illegal cannabis delivery services. These are businesses that lack licenses from both the state and communities where they operate.

Officials say at least six illegal services appear to be making deliveries to unincorporated areas of Santa Cruz County.

County supervisors today/Tuesday approved changes that clarify local cannabis law ahead of the crackdown. The sheriff’s department earlier this month assigned two deputies to the county’s cannabis licensing office.

Illegal cannabis distributors can bypass a 7 percent local tax and a 15 percent state excise test. They also avoid costly packaging and other retail requirements.
