After 3 consecutive days, smoke continues to pour out of the Martinelli’s Apple Cold Storage Warehouse in Watsonville. Fire officials say the blaze, which they have been fighting since 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, is expected to burn throughout the weekend. Officials say the 83-year old facility on West Beach Street is a total loss, and have decided instead of trying to save it, to control how it burns down. So far, 3-million gallons of water has been used to fight the fire, which has caused concerns over air quality in the area. As a result, the Monterey Bay Air Pollution Control District has set up an air quality monitoring device at their fire station.
