A woman was detained Saturday morning after she was found carrying a rifle through Westside Santa Cruz. Police received reports of an armed woman on Mission Street around 2:30 a.m. Officers found the suspect on Fair Avenue carrying a rifle with a mounted scope. The woman refused to put down her weapon, prompting the officers to use beanbag rounds. After being hit several times, the woman dropped the weapon, which turned out to be a pellet rifle. She was taken to the Santa Cruz County Psychiatric Health Unit for evaluation.
