Will The Rain Be Enough To End Fire Danger? 11-19-18 12:05 DC

Rain is in the forecast later this week for Santa Cruz, but will the precipitation end our local fire season?

In a word, “no.” The National Weather Service expects about an inch of rainfall in the Santa Cruz Mountains between Tuesday and Saturday. History tells us that isn’t enough rainfall to end fire season. In fact, there was once a notable fire after about a 10-inch rainfall occurred in a past fall season.

Some local parks in Santa Cruz have been closed due to fire danger.
