An analysis by the Los Angeles Times, published today, finds that hundreds of communities across the state are at high risk from dangerous wildfires, including Monterey. The paper says more than 1.1 million buildings lie within the highest risk area on maps generated by Cal FIRE. That’s about 10 percent of buildings in the state, the paper reports.
While Santa Cruz is not in the area of highest fire danger, most of the Monterey Peninsula is.
