Wilder Ranch is turning 40 years old. The state acquired the 7,000 acre property in 1974, at the time it had been slated to become a 10,000 home development. After a large opposition to the project which would have nearly doubled the size of the city, the land became a state park. Over the decades the park has faced numerous challenges and a threatened state closure, but now has 34 miles of trails and historic buildings. A celebration will be held at the park from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. this Saturday.
