The weekly Veterans’ Free Lunch in Santa Cruz was discontinued this week due to a funding dispute. The non profit that provided the meal, Operation Love Our Vets, took over the operation of the 5 year-old Veteran’s Service Day lunch program last march. Since that time, the non-profit has not been reimbursed the amount they have been spending for the ever-increasing numbers of veterans who have been showing up for the meal. Representatives from the local American Legion Post say they intend to continue the lunch program, and its sister ‘Tuesday Open Pantry’ effort; and to that end they have already contacted another group to take over the Wednesday lunch program.
