Updated: SC Crafters Against COVID Make Facemasks 04-02-20 02:29 DC

Volunteer crafters in Santa Cruz are working to sew handmade facemasks used to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The masks are being made for patients at nursing homes, nonprofits who make food deliveries, and people with medical needs.

The volunteers, who call themselves “Santa Cruz Crafters Against COVID”  say their goal is to free up commercial personal protective equipment so it becomes available for medical providers.

KION Television says the volunteers are not making masks for medical workers at this time, but such a need may arise in the future.

If you’d like to join help and put your sewing skills to use, the group is still accepting volunteers. You can find them on Facebook by searching for “Santa Cruz Crafters Against COVID.”
