The members of the State Lands Commission have voted to set up a way to purchase a route from Highway 1 to Martins Beach in San Mateo county….whether Vinod Khosla wants to sell the right-of-way or not. Khosla has argued that is an infringement of his private property rights to require him to get a permit to close his gate; while his critics say that Khosla knew (when he bought the property) that the Coastal Act requires any property owner along California’s coastline to obtain a state permit before changing either the intensity of the use of the land, or of the public access to the coastline.
