Health officials in San Benito County are asking for increased vaccination after three cases of whooping cough were confirmed in the county. Pregnant women and their unborn children are especially at risk for the potentially deadly disease. Infants cannot be vaccinated but vaccinating mothers during pregnancy transfers some immunity to the unborn child. The pertussis vaccine is also called Tdap.
