Updated: Statewide Flex Alert Issued for Friday 08-13-20 17:37 DC

The California Independent System Operator (ISO) has issued a statewide Flex Alert. ISO is asking people across the state to voluntarily conserve electricity from 3 p.m. – 10 p.m. today, Friday, Aug. 14.

A heat advisory has been issued for parts of Santa Cruz County and an excessive heat warning has been issued for most of San Benito and Monterey Counties.

Prolonged heat over several consecutive days is expected to drive electricity demand higher, as nighttime temperatures are also forecast to be above average.

The ISO recommends says people should use major appliances before 3 p.m. and after 10 p.m. and set air conditioner thermostats to 78 degrees or higher.
