SJV FARMING EQUIPMENT SWAP 10-26-10 18:00 a.v.

In an effort to lower air pollution in the San Joaquin Valley, California farmers and ranchers are replacing old diesel tractors with cleaner running farm equipment. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Services has been working with farmers to replace over 8-hundred out-dated machines with more modern equipment. Officials say the equipment swap has reduced emissions of nitrogen oxide by over 13-hundred tons. The California’s farm belt is said to have the highest levels of airborne dust, smoke and soot in the country.
