It’s been 6-months since a basking shark was tagged by researchers on the central coast, and that means it’s time to collect the data. Researchers with the santa cruz-based pelagic shark research foundation, (along with Stanford scientists), tagged the 16-foot, 3-thousand pound shark with a time-sensitive transmitter. It was due to pop-off in 6-months, and it has now done so off of baja-california. Researchers are now set to analyze the data from the transmitter, to try to better understand the basking shark. Basking sharks are rare on the central coast, and are considered a “species of concern” by N.O.A.A.
