A preliminary settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against Monterey County Jail. The suit, filed on behalf of five inmates, alleges sick and disabled inmates have not been provided with adequate care at the facility. As part of the settlement, county officials have until October 15th to agree on a plan to address problem areas in the jail. Improvements will include the implementation of intake screening, drug and alcohol detoxification, and infection control. Jail officials say problem areas were already being addressed prior to the settlement.
