(11:30) Santa Cruz – UC Santa Cruz was ranked as one of the greenest colleges in the country. Over 200 schools participated in the “Cool Schools” ranking that was created by the Sierra magazine. UC Santa Cruz came in at number 18 on their list because of the consistent effort made by students, faculty and staff to protect the environment and for encouraging sustainability. The Sierra magazine acknowledged UC Santa Cruz for reducing their water usage, running their own bicycle library, using local and organic ingredients in the cafeteria, and for growing pesticide-free food on their farm.
