The Monterey California Highway Patrol responded to an unusual roadblock along Elkhorn Slough on Wednesday. According to the CHP, tree crews reported a sea lion lying down in the roadway shortly before 1 p.m.
A CHP officer arrived to find the California sea lion on the right shoulder and called the Marina Mammal Center to safely remove the animal. The Marine Mammal Center confirmed the California Sea Lion was a 100-pound female adult and the distance it swam was very unusual, said the CHP.
