SC Supes to Consider Stage 2 Variance at Friday 9 AM Meeting 05-27-20 14:10

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY PRESS RELEASE

SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors will hold a special Board meeting on Friday, May 29 to review and consider an application to seek a Stage 2 variance under the State’s Resilience Roadmap.

If approved by the State, the application would make Santa Cruz County the first in the Bay Area to receive a variance, and allow Health Officer Dr. Gail Newel to implement late Stage 2 operations, including dine-in restaurants and barbershops/hair salons, with health and safety modifications.

The meeting will take place at 9 a.m. on Friday at the Santa Cruz County Governmental Building, 701 Ocean St., Santa Cruz. Due to social distancing requirements, seating is limited and participants are strongly encouraged to watch and submit comments online at www.santacruzcounty.us.

If approved by the Board, State review may take up to one week. Restaurants and barbershops/hair salons wishing to prepare their establishments should review State sector guidance, available at https://covid19.ca.gov/roadmap-counties/.

The variance will not impact State prohibitions on Stage 3 operations such as nail salons, tattoo parlors, or other higher-risk personal services. This week, Dr. Newel issued an order aligning Santa Cruz County with the Resilience Roadmap, so that any future State changes may be immediately implemented at the local level.
