The largest school districts in Santa Cruz County have sued electronic-cigarette maker Juul Labs. They say the vaping giant marketed its products to young people and bears the blame for the rise in teen vaping.
Filed separately by Santa Cruz City Schools and Pajaro Valley Unified School District in Santa Cruz County Superior Court, the lawsuits join similar actions filed by dozens of California school districts over the past year.
The districts are seeking injunctive relief and abatement, punitive fines, and compensation for the impact of vaping on district budgets.
