Santa Cruz has been recognized as a great place to go to college. The city was ranked 8th in the “small cities” category of the annual “College Destinations Index,” released by the American Institute for Economic Research. 222 metropolitan areas were evaluated for criteria including student diversity, cost of living, arts and leisure, and unemployment rate. Santa Cruz ranked 8th, ahead of 12 other small cities, including santa Barbara and Honolulu.
