Parking space is at a premium in downtown Santa Cruz and a city panel wants to give developers of affordable housing a break on parking.
Developers could be given a chance to pay a fee per parking space, if they opt not to build their own parking spaces.
City officials estimate it costs Santa Cruz 61-thousand dollars per space to create shared public use parking.
The parking fee gives incentive to affordable housing developers and while the Santa Cruz downtown commission approved it… the city council has the final say.
