The Santa Cruz City Council this week set Labor Day for the start of a new 25-cent charge on disposable cups. The idea is to reduce waste by cutting back on single-use cups.
Watsonville’s 10-cent charge on paper cups became effective on January 1st. Santa Cruz County’s 25-cent per cup charge will begin July 1st.
Proponents hope customers will replace disposable cups with reusable ones.
