SALVATION ARMY/FOT 11-23-10 18:00 a.v.

Roughly 500 people in Santa Cruz took part in a traditional Thanksgiving meal today care of the Salvation Army. Today’s gathering was a result of the cancellation of the annual thanksgiving feast over safety concerns with the Veterans Memorial Building, where the annual meal has usually been served from. The group Friends of Thanksgiving has also stepped forward in response to the cancellation of the meal at the Veteran’s Memorial Building. The group was given over 1,100 pounds of turkey and 700 pounds of vegetables from community members. Meals will be prepared tomorrow and then served Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium. The group is expecting to feed 1,500 needy people.
