The  first  bird  to  have  been  confirmed  as  dieing from  west nile virus in  Monterey  county  this  year  was  found  recently  in  Salinas.    The  virus  is  passed  to  humans  and  animals  through  the  bite  of  a  mosquito…..USUALLY  after  the  mosquito picks  it  up  from  a bird.     West  nile virus can  cause  flu-like symptoms  in  people.      anyone  who  sees  a  dead  bird  (or  squirrel)  is  asked  to  call  the  state  dead  bird  hotline  at  1877-968-bird, or  go  on-line  to
