Resource Officers Approved for Seaside Schools 10-19-18 05:25 DC

The Seaside City Council last night unanimously approved an effort that moves forward on bringing police officers into the city’s schools.

This has been a controversial issue, as some cities have reported that early contact with law enforcement can lead students toward a career in crime.

Last night, Seaside council members voted to approve a memorandum of understanding between the police department and the city for school resource officers.

The vote took place after Seaside’s Police Chief presented the results from four community meetings that discussed the school resource officer issue.

The chief told councilmembers he would make sure to clarify the role of the SROs, permit them to wear relaxed uniforms and concentrate on diversion rather than just enforcement.
