A regional task force in monterey is one step closer to creation. The so-called “Monterey peninsula special response unit” would focus on drug trafficking and gang activity. It is a proposed collaboration between 6-monterey-area cities. monterey’s police department has already allocated funding for the new unit. documents have been filed to advance the process, so the monterey city council is scheduled to review the proposal at its meeting tuesday. That meeting is set to be held at 4 p.m., at monterey city hall on pacific street.
