Rare Blue Sharks Spotted in Monterey Bay 04-015-20 02:24 DC

Once common but now rarely seen, Blue Sharks have been making an appearance in Monterey Bay.

KION Television says two of the sharks have been spotted in the Bay. One was seen 10 miles off Moss Landing while the other washed-up dead on Sunset Beach last Friday. It’s not known what killed the greatly streamlined shark, which really is blue in color.

Modern fishing methods are blamed for the loss of what has become a threatened species, despite protections intended to prevent the Blue Shark from becoming endangered.

Blue Sharks commonly range up to 11-feet in length and weigh 25 pounds. They live in deep waters, and are known for their long-distance migration.
