Local senior citizens have apparently been the target of a phone scam… according to Leslie Goodfriend, Santa Cruz county senior health services manager.
Goodfriend says criminals, posing as social security agents are phoning senior citizens telling them their social security number has been suspended or stolen and used for criminal activity. Consumers receiving these phone calls should hang up immediately.
If you receive such a call report it to either the federal trade commission, adult protective services… the social security administration or all three agencies
