Santa cruz city council members agreed on Tuesday, to move forward on a plan to revamp portions of ocean street. the council’s vote on the draft ocean street area plan, means that an environmental review can be conducted. The plan calls for building high-density housing, and commercial property, on a 1-point-2 mile stretch of ocean street, from highway-17 to the san Lorenzo river. Disagreements about the plan remain, including concerns from residents about over-development. Details of the plan are still being considered; the ocean street plan is part of the city’s general plan, which is set to guide the city through 2030. the general plan is expected to be completed later this summer.
