(09:05) MONTEREY COUNTY – Monterey County leads the state in youth homicide rates, according to a national report. This week, the Washington D.C.-based Violence Policy Center released a report titled “Lost Youth: A County-by-County Analysis of 2013 California Homicide Victims Ages 10 to 24”. According to the analysis, 22 people were killed in Monterey County in 2013. Most of the victims were Latino males. County officials believe the rate has been driven by gang violence. Monterey County topped the same list in 2009, 2010, and 2012. California is ranked 17th in youth homicide rates in the nation. (S.G.)
