The city of Watsonville has a new mayor. City councilman Eduardo montesino was unanimously chosen to fill the role, by a vote of 6 to zero. Montesino is 36 years old, and a father of 3. he immigrated to santa cruz county at the age of 8, and won election to the city council in 2010, just a few years after becoming a U.S. Citizen. Mayor Montesino said the city needs to focus on keeping children in school, and proposed forming a teen leadership council. City councilman Oscar rios was chosen to be vice-mayor, known officially as “mayor pro-tempore.” Both roles are for 1-year.
