Monterey Seal Population-12/25/16-1620-PMD

(16:29) MONTEREY – The decline of the Monterey Bay’s Harbor Seal population may be slowing.  The population has been dropping sharply in the last several years. The decline is due to a shrinking food supply linked to warmer ocean temperatures in the bay. However recently volunteers the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary have been reporting large groups of the marine mammals on area beaches. Marine biologist say that the health of the overall seal population will be determined after counting pup births in the spring.
