It’s called the Mobile Emergency Response Team for Youth – or MERTY, for short – and it provides a single vehicle used to bring mental health services directly to Santa Cruz County community.
The unit is equipped with chairs, a television, and a small refrigerator for beverages. The goal is to offer clients a comfortable environment where they can speak with counselors and therapists without having to travel to them .
Local mental health experts say the mobile unit comes in response to the rising need for mental health services for many during the pandemic.
