A Monterey County deputy’s patrol car caught fire during an emergency operation Monday morning. The deputy had arrived to the scene of a crash on Carmel Valley Road near Tassajara Road and was attempting to resuscitate the driver of a truck that had collided with a tree when the patrol vehicle caught fire. The driver, 67 year old Kenneth William Klein was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the vehicle fire is under investigation.
