The Monterey County Sheriff’s office is investigating the illegal marajuana production in the county. As of January of last year an enforcement team confiscated over 75 hundred pounds of processed cannabis and destroyed over 61 thousand illegal plants making up about 5 percent of the county’s black market operations. The Sheriff’s office says the operations are usually run by heavily-armed criminals and the grow sites are littered with chemicals and pesticides. Legal growers also complain about the burden un regulated growers place on the industry.
