MCO SHERIFF’S BUDGET-CUT PLAN 03-14-11 07:30 a.v.

A preliminary plan to cut positions and programs is being proposed for the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. The proposed budget is Monterey County Sheriff Scott Miller’s response to the 12.2 million dollar shortfall projected for the Sheriff’s Office in the 2011-2012 fiscal year. The sheriff said he has prepared a 63-million budget plan for the 2011-2012. The department budget for 2010-2011 was 75-million. If the worst-case budget plan is approved, Miller says there will likely be severe repercussions in the delivery of county public safety services, starting with reducing the number of patrol officers by 25%.
