The Boulder Creek man, who is accused of intentionally starting the nearly 400-acre Bear Fire, has pleaded not guilty. 54 year-old Marlon Coy is believed to have started the fires October 16th, after having a dispute with someone on Diane’s Way. Coy was arrested several days later, in connection with the looting of an evacuated home, in the area of Hidden Springs Lane. The wildfire destroyed 4 homes, and damaged numerous others. 13 firefighters also suffered injuries while working to contain the blaze….and 3 of those are still hospitalized. Coy faces at least 5 charges connected with the Bear Fire, and his bail remains at 800-thousand dollars. Coy is scheduled to return to a Santa Cruz county court room December 1st for his preliminary hearing.
