Man Kicked Out of Bernardus Lodge Over Viral Incident 07-7-20 16:42 DC

The video showing a man using racist remarks and then being kicked out of a Carmel Valley restaurant has gone viral.

Witnesses said a group was out celebrating a family member’s birthday at Bernardus Lodge when a man sitting at a nearby table starting yelling racist remarks at them.

The man was later identified as Michael Lofthouse.

In a statement sent to local television station KSBW, Lofthouse apologized.

“My behavior in the video is appalling. This was clearly a moment where I lost control and made incredibly hurtful and divisive comments. I would like to deeply apologize to the Chan family. I can only imagine the stress and pain they feel. I was taught to respect people of all races, and I will take the time to reflect on my actions and work to better understand the inequality that so many of those around me face every day.”

Bernardus Lodge said the man in the video was not staying there but was only there for dinner. An employee of the restaurant quickly steps in and tells the man he has to leave.
