By August, Monterey County is expected to have an “above normal significant wildfire potential”, and because of that Cal-Fire has decided to give CSU-Monterey Bay, and Big Sur Fire some local Fire Prevention Grants. Approximately a quarter of a million dollars will go toward a 2-year student internship project (in which the students will work on ‘the advancement of fire prevention planning and mapping for Monterey and San Benito counties’), while $55,000 will go toward a wildfire pre-attack plan for the Big Sur area.
